Switching to 'Dates' changes the Clock Style pop-up menu to appropriate calendar dates styles. At present, the only date format available is Sat Apr 24 2004.
You can optionally leave off the leading 'day' display if you are short of space or just don't think it necessary. You can also adjust the horizontal and vertical padding around the elements.
Some date styles, such as the included 'Monotony HR' make more sense on a black background. For most purposes, you will probably want the dates text on a light or transparent background. You can set a background colour, or transparency, on the Options dialog.
